Accelerometer

Measures the vibration, or acceleration

What is Acceleration?

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with respect to time. Or in other words: acceleration is the rate of increase or decrease of the speed of an object per unit of time. Since velocity is a vector quantity and has direction, then acceleration must also indicate the amount of change in magnitude and direction of velocity. According to Newton’s second law, F=ma or a=F/m. It should be noted that acceleration produces a force that is measured by the force detection structure of the accelerometer.

Therefore, the accelerometer actually measures force, not acceleration. Basically, the accelerometer; It obtains the acceleration indirectly through the force applied to one of the axes of the accelerometer.

What is an accelerometer?

Accelerometers or acceleration sensors are mechanical, electromechanical or electronic elements that give us the amount of change in speed over time in analog or digital form by means of different technologies. As science advances, the most common acceleration sensors are “capacitive accelerometers” or MEMS. Acceleration sensors are offered in common types: single-axis, 2-axis and 3-axis.

Selecting the right accelerometer

To use the right acceleration sensor, depending on the type of project, you must be careful. When choosing an accelerometer, you should consider which of the parameters: sensitivity, frequency response, dynamic range, etc. are important to you.

In order to learn more about the concept of acceleration and accelerometers, we will soon provide you with useful and relevant information in the Gebrabit Encyclopedia.
